What’s the difference between ignorant and arrogant?

Posted by John Anumba

It has become necessary to differentiate ignorance from arrogance because both are not the same thing.

Because they sound alike doesn’t indicate that they have a similar or related meaning.

According to definition, ignorance simply means not knowing, being uneducated, and unknowledgeable.

When you have no knowledge or idea of something, it means you are ignorant of that thing. While arrogance simply means having excessive pride in oneself and an exaggerated sense of superiority

There are so many negative aspects and traits that come with arrogance. Ignorance likewise can cause so much damage to one’s life.

One fact about ignorance I’ve come to realize that no matter how knowledgeable you are, you will still remain ignorant of so many things in life because you can never know it all.

Arrogance on the other hand deals with a person’s character and how he or she relates to people within his/her circle of friends.

Understanding these two settings and definitions, we can now see that both ignorance and arrogance have separate meanings.

However, they can be interrelated in the sense that an arrogant person might be ignorant of how repulsive his character is and how it affects his relationship with others

Most times, arrogant people are not aware of why they behave the way they do.

Which is why it is very difficult to get a person like this to change his ways

It is also possible that an arrogant person is acting this way on purpose just to keep up appearances and doing all it takes to remain the center of attraction in any circle he finds himself in.

Can Someone be Ignorant and Arrogant at Same Time?

Just as we’ve talked about how intertwined ignorance and arrogance can be, it makes sense to dive a little bit deeper into how related they are.

There is a great possibility of someone being arrogant and ignorant at the same time

From a personal point of view, any arrogant person that is aware of what he’s doing and still insists on putting down others, disrespecting them, and thinking less of them just to feel powerful is an ignorant person.

Though I understand that there are people that are arrogant and not aware because they feel it is their self-confidence that is speaking for them.

People like these are also ignorant of the fact that they have repulsive characters and make people around them feel less of themselves.

When you put people down on purpose, talk bad of them, disrespect them, and take credit for a team effort, it means you are not aware of what it takes to build a healthy relationship.

This is the reason why arrogant people find it difficult to sustain romantic relationships and healthy friendships.

Ignorance can be viewed from different perspectives and in the case of arrogance, people like this are ignorant of so many things which affect their human relationship.

So it is very possible that someone can be arrogant and ignorant at the same time.

What is Worse Ignorance or Arrogance?

Knowledge they say is power and the knowledge of the truth it’s the only way for any man to be free of ignorance.

I am aware of the negative traits of an arrogant personality and how they relate with people around them. But the damage arrogance can cause someone is nothing compared to what ignorance can do to a man’s life.

It doesn’t matter what you are looking for in life and what you want to achieve, someone out there holds the key, someone has the answer and you can always find the truth. But because you are ignorant of the truth you might never find the answers you’re looking for.

PEOPLE ALSO READ  Why being arrogant is bad?

This is why great leaders are readers.

They are constantly expanding their knowledge bank and trying to minimize their level of ignorance on so many issues and matters that concern them and their status as leaders

There are many reasons why someone can be arrogant, one of which is the edge a person has over other people.

Someone can be so empowered with so much knowledge which can be used as an advantage over others. This power can drive them to be arrogant and look down on others.

There are positives and negatives of arrogance which is why they are most times successful in their field.

The knowledge they have about their field of practice empowers them to retain the center stage they enjoy even though the relationship with people is not one that is well appreciated by their subordinates.

We can agree on the fact that arrogant people have ample knowledge about their abilities, talents, and skills. Ignorance on the other hand makes you powerless and unable to achieve so many things in life.

After comparing how much damage ignorance and arrogance can do to one’s life, I am of the opinion that ignorance is worse than arrogance.

Arrogant People Have A Sense Of Insecurity

The main reason why arrogant people act the way they do is because they are always trying to hide something. Their fear drives their actions which remains the need to be the center of attraction.

Same insecurity is the reason why they feel threatened by other people’s successes and achievements.

If they are not part of the success story, they demean and diminish it.

PEOPLE ALSO READ  Can an arrogant person be humble?

It has to be about them – nothing else matters even when other ideas are better than theirs.

They confuse their boldness with confidence when there is a fine line between these two personalities.

Confident people accept their flaws, take responsibility for their failures, learn from them and use the data from these errors to grow.

Arrogant people on the other hand do all they can to hide their inabilities. They refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes, rather, they blame them on someone else.

Confident people are humble while arrogant people have their exaggerated sense of importance.

They are proud which is why losing their top positions at a later time sends them into depression.

The negative part of it all is their constant fear of being replaced which keeps them on their toes and always on the lookout for possible threats to their status.
