How do I get him to pay for things?

Posted by John Anumba

Are faced with a situation where your man is refusing to pay for stuff when you both go out? Do you need an action plan to get him to start taking part in sharing the financial responsibility of your outings and dates?

The short answer to this question is to stop paying for stuff and don’t go out with him if he is not in agreement with you on who to pay for the meals or stuff you buy.

If you are in the attitude of paying every time you go out with your man, then you are in a parasitic relationship and you man is not taking responsibility for his actions.

A man that has no problem with his women spending all the time when they go out simply means that he is not interested in investing in the relationship.

A one-sided relationship is not one that anyone should be part of.

Sooner than later you will find yourself stressed mentally and emotionally.

If you have done everything within your power to get him to start participating in the financial burden of your relationship and you are unable to make progress, then you should reevaluate your stand and consider leaving him.

A relationship where one party takes over the financial responsibility without the other party making effort to help out is not a healthy one.

What if the woman earns more in the relationship?

This is a different scenario, if your man is still looking for a job or lost his, then it is understandable for his woman to support him for as long as possible.

The effort he is making to get back on his feet financially will also be visible to the woman.

But when he is not making any effort or he has some source of income and not willing to invest in the relationship, then you shouldn’t expect any serious commitment from him.

A thriving relationship takes work for it to be successful.

This work means contribution from all parties involved. When sustaining the relationship is all about one person alone, it takes a lot of effort to make it last.

A man that is dating a woman that earns more than he does should make effort to appreciate this woman. It doesn’t have to be expensive, your woman only needs to appreciate it no matter how small or simple it is.

What do you say when a guy offers to pay?

When a guy offers to pay for the first date or shopping at Target, simply tell him thanks for paying and that you enjoyed going out with him.

Gratitude is an important aspect of any date.

He wants you and decides to take you out and probably spend some cash on you; thanks should suffice.

Going out on a date is most times requested by the man. It makes sense for him to be the one to pay for the first date at least.

If you are the one asking the man out on a date, he is only trying to fulfill his masculine role and pay for stuff.

You should pay by insisting that you want to pay and you can allow him to pay the next time.
